R controlled vowels: or as in for, ore as in more
The letter R changes the sound of vowels. This week we will work on or/ore which sound like the word or.

Practice the words everyday and soon you will know how to read and write them. This is what we do on our whiteboards in class. Students can use i-pad Notes to write the words.
Dear Family, Read the following while your student writes the words:
Start with the word or. Say or. Now write or. Read or.
Add an f to the beginning of or and you have for. Say for. Write for. Read for. This is not the number word!
Add a k to the end of for and you have fork. Say fork. Write fork. Read fork.
Change the k to the letter t and you have fort. Say fort. Write fort. Read fort.
Change the f to an s and you have sort. Say sort. Write sort. Read sort.
Add an sh to the beginning and you have short. Say short. Write short. read short.
Let's make a new word. It will begin with b and end with an n. Say born. Write born. Read born.
Change the b to a c and you have corn. say corn. Write corn. Read corn.
Or can also be written ore like the word more.

Change the s to a t and you have tore. Say tore. Write tore. Read tore.

Remember contractions are when two words are made into one new word. Look at the first word, it does not change. did not---didn't. the second word loses letters that are replaced with an apostrophe (') then the two words are made into a new, shorter word. do not---don't.
Writing: Write a perfect sentence! Use your list or write one of your own.
